For owners of old dogs that have black fur.?

I have a ten year old rotwieller. He's in perfect health just old. He has no hip problems, no arthiritis problems, nothing just all the normall things that go with being an old man like his teeth are a bit run down, the puppy energy only shows it's self ever once in a while things like that. He has a grey beard and some grey hairs on the back of his neck around his collar. The grey hairs around his collar are not on his neck they are on his back. Understand? Not good with words. There are also stray grey hairs here and there on him too.

My question is will he ever turn all the way grey and how long will that take? Is it possible or will he be gone before that could ever happen? Just currious is all.

I've never seen a black dog, or cat, that has gone completely grey. What's more common is for the black to start going sort of ginger - I've seen some VERY old ginger cats that were clearly once black!

As you can see, your dog is only really flecked with grey, and that's at ten years of age. I just don't think it's possible for a cat or dog to live long enough to go completely grey! My friend's 2 year old rottie as they odd grey hair, but no way would he ever go completely grey. Completely rusty maybe, but not grey! Oh, and I've seen black labs with completely grey muzzles and paws, but that's it.

i do not think that he will live long enough to turn gray all over.

No, he will not turn all gray, but he will continue to get a few more. Older dogs start to get gray, just like humans, but not quickly enough to turn completely gray.

you dont have to worry bout a thing all that will happen is it will look like your dog has a gray beard and moustache. they will never become all gray. and all the extra details helps people answer the questions so write all that you thinks is necessary

Most dogs get gray all around the face and neck, but not all over the body.

No, he won't go all grey. My old black greyhound (or at least he used to be), now has a white muzzle, white belly, the backs of his front legs are white and he's getting stray white hairs in his black on the rest of him. He's to the point where he can't be called black anymore!

Our last dog who died at 15 1/2 started going grey under her muzzle first. By the time she died she had grey spectacles and most of her muzzle was grey too.

All of the grey was on her head.
