Do you dislike university staff?

I left academia after taking an undergraduate degree, but live in a city dominated by universities, and rub shoulders with the above group a lot. Why are male university staff members such losers, with hair that goes grey in their early 30s? Why do they have no real friends, except their fellow studious knobends, and pathetic hobbies like cross-country running?

I think it would be due to the way they think; within the box, they are very linear, I guess depending on what they would be teaching as well. They developed the Bell curve to protect their tenure too and would be lost without a book.

I respect a great education but CAN NOT respect stuffy educated in the BOX thinkers. Kind of like a religion; all doctrine but no relationship.

Only the ugly ones

I guess because of their social class. Sometimes we only interact in our minds with people we feel like were equal to in education, as well as class. And it could probaly be because all they do in life is to perfect thierselves and theyre not openminded not ready 2 try new things, theyre already stuck in their way so all i suggest in try 2 reach out and see if they change.

Why don't you try running and see how pathetic it is? I am betting you don't run because it's too hard for you. Most people just try slipping out of that excuse by saying it bores them, but in truth cross-country is the hardest sport out there and very few people have it in them to do it.

And perhaps their hair turns grey because of stess. You know, that happens when what you are doing with your life is actually important and meaningful.

And maybe they have very few friends because they have already figured out that most the population is dumb and why waste time on dumb people anyway?

not like that at my college

Many people go into academia to hide from life and interact with very young people who they can control.

And you have a supermodel wife, drive a sports car and lead a James Bond lifestyle? C'mon man what right do we have to judge what makes others happy?

If they like that kind of thing them they should do that kind of thing. All my lecturers had huge beards (I did an archaeology degree).

Well, I agree with you in that some university staff are not fun to interact with. However, I think you are being a bit hard on the men. Most are not losers. I haven't met a lot that have gray hair in their 30's, but it could be because of genetics or the fact that they are teachers. (Try teaching, trust me, it will turn your hair gray in no time!) To say they have no "real" friends doesn't make sense. Sure, you don't want to be friends with those type of people, but it is enjoyable for them to have a friendly relationship with others with similar interests. I really disagree with cross-country running being a pathetic hobby. Exercise of any kind has numerous benefits for the body and mind.

I dont know, but doncha hate that students aren't proper students any more, there all washed hair and designer clothes and off home early to study. When I was at Uni, u didnt wash for weeks, wore all your clothes at once and spent yer grant money in the union! Then u'd go protest about somethin, shaggg one of the aforementioned greying nobbbs and get an A... those were the days!
