Hello everybody!
I'm a 37 year old man and I've been trying covering grey hair with hair color products, mostly common shelf products (Just for Men, Grecian etc). My problem is that every time I use it (regardless of the shade of the color), my hair always turns out with the same reddish glow!!! I feel frustrated because it is immediately noticed in public. My original natural color is dark brown and I have tried from lighter brown to real black shade. It is important to point out that I always follow the instructions very closely. What can I do to fix this? I heard that mixing blue or green base with brown 5-minute formulas that I usually use could help. Also, what brands
should I look for? Please help!!!
Thanks!

grey is a hard color to cover. You need to go to a professional that knows what they are doing. ask them for advice on covering your type of grey.
I have had luck with Preference by Loreal, but I also leave the color in longer than they recommend, because I am about 80% grey.
Don't take chances if you are not sure. Go to a salon, have it done professionally, then ask for advice on do-it-yourself box color...that's what I did.
good luck

Call the "800" number on the back of the hair dye box and explain. They will tell you exactly what to do to get the results you want. Good Luck.

hope everything works out well for you:)

Hair is no joking matter and is worth every penny. I would suggest you get your hair professionally done. That way you know your getting a good cut and color. In your case I think your hair would look great with some color but keep a lot of your white in there, kinda like a harrison ford. But its worth the money to get it professioanlly done, and becasue your a man and you probably don't have long hair it won't cost you an arm and a leg. GOOD LUCK. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

If you have a Sallys in your area you can get a tube of RED OUT for about two bucks! It does just that! :) Hope that helps!

Stop in at a hair salon and have them go over a chart with you. They cut/color men's hair as well as women's and will usually tell you what colors to use after you've been there a couple of times. Or Sally's Beauty supply will normally help you.
You may be using a product that has too many "warm" tones, when you need a cool tone.
Also, you may need to leave it on a bit longer to cover the gray. It may not be finished yet and it leaves it with the reddish tones.

Try a hair coloring that says "ash" in the name of the color. My natural brown is ash, which looks grey, (I dye it), and I always wondered why people would purposely color their hair with an ash hair color. So I asked my mom, a hairdresser since forever, and she said it's for people who's hair tends to turn red. Mine has no natural red to make the brown look rich and nice, so instead it tends to look dull and almost grey. It's worth a try.
