Chihuahua puppies: anyone know of breeders.?

would like a short hair male....possibly grey. I have been looking...but the prices are scary. Any help...I live in NJ so that would be great if I did not have to have him shipped. If you have brought a dog, who did you go through?

A good place to start is the Chihuahua Club of America. They will help you find a responsible breeder in your area. The site also has lots of good information about Chihuahuas.

Don't just buy based on price. The very inexpensive dogs often are poorly bred and will have health problems that will cost much more in the long run. A responsible breeder will have health tested both parents and be much more likely to sell healthy puppies.

Please also consider getting a slightly used dog from Chihuahua Rescue.

I do know a wonderful breeder. He bred all mine. He will not ship though. He's in Northern Ontario. Far too far to travel for you.

A well bred Chihuahua will be expensive. It's very expensive to breed toy dogs. They often need a c-section for the birth which usually costs from $1,000 and upwards. of course this is passed on to the buyer of the pups. Plus there is often only 1 or 2 in a litter. There are also all the other costs of breeding to be passed on.

Try looking for your nearest Chihuahua rescue. You will save a life and money too.

The gray coat is known as blue. Unless the dog is very well bred there can be problems with the coat or skin. I have a blue myself, but thanks to good breeding there are no problems. I know many people who have had terrible problems with dry and pealing skin and bald patches with badly bred blues though. Please be very careful if you do go for a blue pup.

Why don't you go to a reputable rescue centre and help a dog that needs it, you won't regret it, not in the purse or the choice of best friend!

i cant remember but there was a breeder and she only $600 for the blues and they had blue eyes....
